USC Libraries Course Reserves is a service provided by the Libraries to allow instructors to manage course materials unique and/or available through the Libraries and students to access course content. This includes electronic reserves (articles, book chapters, etc.) and physical reserve requests (books, other physical items). Course Reserves serves both UPC (University Park Campus) and Health Sciences Campus (HSC) users.
FALL 2026 UPDATE:
- We continue to prioritize electronic formats for reserves where possible, either from our existing collections or through acquisitions.
- Where electronic formats are not available and cannot be acquired electronically, we will process physical copies for Course Reserves.
- We continue to scan no more than 2 chapters from a single work as per copyright guidelines.
Please note that Course Reserves was often referred to as "ARES", which is Automated Reserves System, the management system we use for this service. Course Reserves and ARES are one and the same.
For details regarding Course Reserves services, please see the information under our How To's and Policies menus above or contact us or call (213) 740-4020.
