PKP Faculty Recognition Awards

The USC chapter of the all-university honor society Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to request nominations for the Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Recognition Awards. The presentation of awards will take place at the annual Academic Honors Convocation planned for the spring of 2023. Phi Kappa Phi will present up to four awards of $1,000 to USC faculty for works predominantly created while at USC.

All full-time and part-time faculty associated with degree-granting programs who are currently employed by USC are eligible for award consideration. Self-nomination is the most frequent form of nomination. Phi Kappa Phi also welcomes nominations from deans, department chairs, and faculty colleagues. We encourage those who have not submitted their works previously to do so this year. In addition to submitting the nominated work(s) as described below, all nominators must complete this submission form.

The recipients of the awards are chosen by a committee of faculty from diverse fields. The prize recognizes major achievements in research, contributions to knowledge, and artistic creativity. Scholarly and creative works in any of the categories listed below are eligible. Where submissions are co-authored or co-produced, a clear statement should be submitted to indicate the contribution of the USC faculty member(s), which must be preponderant to be eligible for the awards.

Phi Kappa Phi encourages nominators to include representative published reviews of nominated works or letters of support. Eligible works previously considered may be resubmitted. Only one submission of a faculty member may be entered annually.

Eligibility

  1. Books with copyright date within the calendar years 2020-2022.
  2. A set of articles that together represents a significant body of original work with a coherent theme and with a copyright date in the calendar years 2020-2022. The articles should be accompanied by a statement (500-1,000 words) that summarizes the findings in the articles, demonstrates how they form a coherent body of work, and describes their impact within a field and, if relevant, beyond that field. (Although not limited to disciplines where scholarly articles, rather than books, are the normal channel of publication, this category is intended specifically to elicit submissions from such disciplines.)
  3. A creative arts submission displaying achievements of faculty in disciplines where the form of publication(s) (in calendar years 2020-2022) is through any of a variety of creative endeavors rather than scholarly books or articles. These materials, which should be submitted electronically, might include the originals when they are a set of digital photographs; descriptive writing and digital photographs or videos or links thereto when they include performances, sculptures, or buildings; or digital recordings of original music.

Nominators/nominated faculty members should provide digital access to books, articles, or creative endeavors to Timothy J. Stanton at pkp@usc.edu, subject line “2023 Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Awards Nomination.”

The deadline for submission is Friday, January 6, 2023, at 4:30 pm.

Questions about USC’s Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Recognition Awards should go to PKP President Najmedin Meshkati at meshkati@usc.edu.
