Visit from Special Libraries Association CEO Janice Lachance

On May 19, 2009, The Special Libraries Association (SLA) CEO Janice Lachance was the featured speaker at the SLA Southern California chapter's professional development meeting at USC. Lachance visited the Cinematic Arts Library and the USC Gould Law Library while she was on campus.

"Doing More With Less: Creative Ways to Provide Outstanding Service in Tough Economic Times" was the title of the Southern California Chapter of the Special Libraries Association's (SLA SCC) multipart professional development program held at the USC University Club.  The event opened with a panel of speakers:  SLA CEO Janice Lachance; Sue Brewsaugh, library manager at The Boeing Company; Doris Helfer, chair of technical services at CSU Northridge; Brian Raphael, assistant director at USC Gould Law Library; and Chris Schneider, senior account manager at Elsevier.  Sara Tompson, USC Libraries associate dean for public service and SLA SCC professional development chair, moderated the panel that focused on partnerships with vendors, colleagues, and patrons to leverage resources.

During a tour of the Cinematic Arts Library for Lachance and other SLA members, Steve Hanson graciously let her hold an Oscar from the libraries' special collections. The evening concluded with a Polynesian style dinner and a talk by Ms. Lachance, which appears on her section of the SLA Website.
