Tribute to Modern Dance Choreographer Rudy Perez on June 6

Groundbreaking choreographer Rudy Perez donated his personal archive to the USC Libraries in 2002. On Saturday, June 6, California State University, Los Angeles, will host a tribute, featuring an appearance by Perez and a performance of his piece, Enough Rope, by Liquid Skin Ensemble and members of the Rudy Perez Ensemble.

Rudy Perez--choreographer, dancer, and former USC professor--joined the legendary Judson Dance Theater in the mid-1960s. During the 1960s and 70s, the Rudy Perez Dance Theater toured throughout the United States, Germany, and Canada. His signature solo pieces from the period, Coverage (1970), which has been part of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater repertoire, and Countdown (1964), have withstood the test of time. In addition, since he moved to Southern California in 1979, Perez has created more than 50 dance pieces.

You can learn more about Perez by visiting his Web site or his collection at the USC Libraries. Tickets for the June 6 event are still available for $30.00. Call 323-343-660 or purchase tickets online.
