Social science data librarian Katharin Peter represented the USC Libraries at the IASSIST/IFDO conference in Tampere, Finland, from May 26-29, 2009. The conference was hosted by the Finnish Social Science Data Archive and the University of Tampere and was a joint effort between the International Association of Social Science Information Service & Technology (IASSIST), and the International Federation of Data Organisations for the Social Science (IFDO).

While there, Peter co-presented a 2-hour workshop titled Data Librarians Represent! Integrating Data Services into the Social Science Research Process. The workshop presented a range of models for incorporating data resources into each stage of the social science research process and practices for reaching new populations through library data services. Other conference programs included sessions on public opinion data, data sharing and data preservation, a closing plenary titled Collecting, Visualizing, Communicating, and Modeling Spatial Data in the Social Sciences, and a relaxing post-conference excursion to a Finnish sauna.
