Poet raúlrsalinas at the 1973 Festival de Flor y Canto on USC Campus

The late poet and prison rights activist read "Homenaje al Pachuco" and two other poems at the Festival de Flor y Cantos, which took place in 1973 on the USC campus. USC alum Michael Sedano recently digitized video footage of the historic event and donated it to the libraries. Contact Barbara Robinson of the Boeckmann Center at brobinso@usc.edu to view DVDs of raúlrsalinas and other pioneering voices in the Chicano literary movement.

To learn more about the Festival de Flor y Canto, read our earlier Libwire post or visit Sedano's blog. You can also visit raúlrsalinas' Web page or watch the late poet reading "Homenaje al Pachuco" in San Antonio in 2006 here. We've posted an excerpt from the 1973 performance below. We'll post another clip shortly.
