photograph by information delivery specialist Angel Hernandez of the USC Libraries was Wednesday's featured "Art of Transit" image on LA Metro's The Source blog. Hernandez's shot shows the interior of Union Station's East Portal. "I borrowed my friends Nikon D70 one week to try it out," Hernandez wrote on Flickr. "This is one of my first shots with it of the East Portal of LA's Union Station. I was heading to my train and quickly took this shot heading down the escalator."

The history of Union Station, which today serves Amtrak, Metrolink, and Metro Rail, is well-documented in the USC Libraries' collections. In 2006, the libraries acquired the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal Collection, containing records of efforts by three rival railroad companies to create the station.
