New Version of American Civil War Research Database Available

USC students and faculty can now search the latest edition of the American Civil War Research Database from Alexander Street Press. The database contains indexed, searchable information on over 4 million soldiers and thousands of battles, together with more than 17,000 historic photographs. You can access the resource from the USC Libraries e-resources pages.

The new data in this release of the American Civil War Research Database includes:

  • 8,000 soldiers’ date or year of birth
  • 4,500 soldiers’ birth place
  • 10,500 soldiers’ post war date or year of death
  • 15,000 soldiers’ burial location
  • ... plus tens of thousands of other new data details about individuals, regiments and battles.

Also added are 330 new regimental histories and over 1,200 new soldiers’ photographs.  Information about individuals' promotions has been standardized, particularly where they rose through the ranks to eventually command a brigade.
