The Viterbi digital archive provides a firsthand look at the life and scientific work of National of Science Medal honoree Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi. It was formally unveiled at a November 7 ceremony in Doheny Memorial Library.
With more than 35,000 documents, the Andrew J. and Erna Viterbi Family Archive is one of the largest in the USC Libraries Digital Archive. It includes his patents, scientific publications, and unpublished research notes, as well as private letters and family photos. The physical materials are held in the USC Libraries’ special collections as part of the University Archives.
The online archive is the product of a partnership between the USC Libraries and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Matt Gainer, Deborah Holmes-Wong, Michael Hooks, Zahid Rafique, Claude Zachary, and the USC Libraries programming group all contributed to the project.
The online archive includes many rare materials from Viterbi's family history, including this group photograph with Viterbi's father Achille.
