My Bondage and My Freedom

Author: Douglass, Frederick, 1818-1895 Publication Year: 1855 Publication Location: New York and Auburn: Miller, Orton & Mulligan
Description:

Frederick Douglass' second autobiograpy that significantly revised portions of his 1845 "Narrative", and extends his life story to include recent experiences lecturing across the United States and the United Kingdom. It also includes an introduction by the prominent African-American abolitionist Dr. James M'Cune Smith, as well as a letter from Douglass to a former master, Thomas Auld, and various excerpts from Douglass' lectures on abolition. These additions provide readers with a better sense of the larger historical movements in which Douglass played an important part.
