Barbara Robinson was an engaged and deeply knowledgeable member of the USC Libraries since she started in 1985 as the librarian for the newly endowed Boeckmann Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies in Special Collections. During her nearly four decades of service at USC, she also served as the library liaison for Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American, Chicano, and Latino Studies and led the acquisitions department as acting head in the 1990s. Barbara enjoyed sharing the collections she supported and developed with USC students and faculty, as well as researchers from around the world. Barbara will be remembered for her passionate stewardship of the Cervantes Collection, the Boeckmann artists’ book collection, the Posada collections, and the Latino journalism archival collections, including the papers of Rubén Salazar. Barbara was also instrumental in establishing a number of endowments to support the acquisition and care of Spanish and Portuguese language materials, and was actively involved in SALALM (Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials), using these avenues to build a world class collection of Spanish and Portuguese language, culture and history materials. Barbara was a key partner on numerous exhibits and programs organized for the USC Visions and Voices series as well as many library events. She will be greatly missed by the USC Libraries and across the academic departments she supported. -Tribute by Susan Luftschein and Marje Schuetze-Coburn
