Interlibrary loan (ILL) books and other physical materials borrowed from other partner libraries and institutions need to be returned by the due date indicated. These items do not belong to USC and ultimately the Libraries and our users are responsible for the condition and timely return of these materials.
Items not returned, lost, or excessively damaged are charged for a replacement fee of $150.00, which is the same as the amount charged for lost USC-owned materials.
- Users receive a reminder notification via email when an ILL loan is about to be due followed by overdue reminders after the due date.
- If ILL items are not returned on or about the due date, your IDD account will blocked until all overdue items are returned.
- ILL items lost or not returned will be automatically charged a $150.00 replacement fee. Once the fine is paid, please contact us or call (213) 740-4020 to unblock your account.
Multiple volume requests (i.e. several volumes in one request) will be charged at $150.00 per volume.
Outstanding bills for overdue library or InterLibrary Loan materials may result in the revocation of library privileges until the issue is resolved. Furthermore, failure to settle unpaid fines within 45 days from the date issued will result in academic restrictions. Academic restrictions affect the user's ability to register and to obtain transcripts, reports, or diplomas.
Please note that replacement copies of lost items are no longer accepted in lieu of the replacement fee.
Replacement fines can be paid at any USC Libraries circulation desk.
Excessive or consistent overdue items will result in permanent suspension of IDD privileges.
Lastly, we will work with you to avoid these costly fines and restrictions as our goal is ultimately the return of materials that do not belong to USC back to their owning libraries or institutions.
