40 Lecture Series #1 Korean Messiah with Jonathan Cheng

Before it became the capital of the world's most closed regime, Pyongyang was known as the "Jerusalem of the East," a center of Protestant Christianity in Korea. Kim Il Sung, the founder of North Korea, grew up in that world, in a devout Christian family. In Korean Messiah, veteran Wall Street Journal correspondent Jonathan Cheng traces how Kim's Christian upbringing shaped the personality cult that has sustained the Kim dynasty for three generations.

Please join us for the first event in the USC Korean Heritage Library’s 40th Anniversary Lecture Series. Cheng will discuss the book's research, its surprising findings, and what it shows about modern Korean history, religion, and power. A Q&A will follow.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. The USC Libraries operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other prohibited factor.
