Panel Discussion: Dr. Theodore Hsi-en Chen (1902-1991): Chinese American Education Pioneer and Founder of East Asian Studies at USC  

Time and Location: 2-3:30pm Tuesday April 18, 2023 at DML 240

This panel, moderated by Sonya Lee (Professor of Art History, East Asian Languages and Cultures, and Religion, Department Chair of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Director of East Asian Studies Center, USC), will feature a scholarly discussion about Dr. Chen’s scholarship, contributions, and legacy to the USC and the community. Li-Ping Chen (Postdoctoral Scholar and Teaching Fellow, East Asian Studies Center, USC) will talk about Dr. Chen's educational activism and community leadership, Stanley Rosen (Professor of Political Science, USC) about Dr. Chen's scholarship and research, Teresa Chi-ching Sun (Dr. Chen's former colleague at USC) about Dr. Chen's contribution to developing East Asian Studies during the cold war, and Kenneth Klein (Head Emeritus of USC East Asian Library from 1983 to 2020) about Dr. Chen's book donations and contribution to USC's East Asian Library. Tang Li (Acting Head and Chinese Studies Librarian of USC's East Asian Library) will also talk about Dr. Chen Papers and other related archival materials at USC.
