This presentation provides insights into the lives and works of Gina Kaus, Vicki Baum, and Salka Viertel, three understudied Austrian-Jewish authors who escaped Nazi persecution by fleeing to the United States. Upon settling in Los Angeles, each found employment as a screenwriter at various Hollywood studios, such as Warner Bros., Fox, Paramount, and MGM. Sponsored by the USC Casden Institute's Faculty and Graduate Student Seminars.
