Altmetrics 101: Demonstrating the Impact of Your Work

Event
October 28, 2015 - October 28, 2015
noon

In the world of scholarly publishing, you, along with your publications, are the product. Still, the publishing environment has transformed to become data-driven and measurable at every turn. In order to thrive, you’ll need to understand the new tools available to maximize your efforts, and develop a strategic plan to disseminate, track, and evaluate your published work. This workshop will serve as an introduction to altmetrics and its components. We will identify various tools for capturing altmetrics data such as database native tools, PlumX, Altmetrics Bookmarklet, and Impact Story, and offer a case study that leverages USC citation data.

Presented by Carolyn Caffrey Gardner (Information Literacy and Educational Technology Librarian), Ben Lea (Science & Engineering Librarian), and Caroline Muglia (Collection Assessment Librarian).

This is the inaugural workshop in the Keeping Current @ the USC Libraries Workshop Series, aimed at engaging faculty and graduate students in current issues related to libraries, scholarly communication, and educational technology. All are welcome to attend.
