Appendix II: Generalized Theory of Gravitation
Proof copy of the first edition of Appendix II to The Meaning of Relativity (Princeton, NJ: Princeton University, 1949). USC's complete proof copy contains Einstein's handwritten authorial corrections and equations on pages 145 and 146. Einstein gave this copy to Wolfgang Pauli, with handwritten instructions to pass it on to Pais, Einstein's colleague and biographer (original line handwritten by Einstein to the top on the first page, stating: "Pauli, nach Einsichtnahme bitte Pais geben!") [i.e. "Pauli, after inspection, please give to Pais!"]).
