The Venerable Guo Dong visited USC’S East Asian Library to donate the one-hundred-volume collected works of Master Sheng Yen. One of the most important living teachers of Chan Buddhism, Master Sheng Yen founded the international Buddhist cultural foundation, Dharma Drum Mountain. Guo Dong is the abbot president of Dharma Drum Mountain in Taiwan. He was joined by the Venerable Guo Chian from the association's U.S. chapter and several representatives from Taiwan and the Los Angeles area. The East Asian Library was one of two libraries in the United States to receive the collected volumes.

On behalf of Master Sheng Yen, Guo Dong explained the purpose of his gift to the USC Libraries. He said, “There is a lot of misunderstanding about Buddhism. We want more people to understand what Buddhism really is, and how they can apply its teachings to their daily lives. Through these books, we hope to spread wisdom and compassion in the world.”
