The recent deaths of 19 firefighters in Arizona prompted many news outlets to recall a 1933 fire in Los Angeles' Griffith Park that claimed the lives of 29 firefighters. Major television networks, including NBC News, featured photos from the USC Libraries' Special Collections in their coverage. The images appear 2:42 into Miguel Almaguer's report the NBC Nightly News and also 0:43 into Elex Michaelson's report for ABC7's Eyewitness News. Writing about wildland fire history, KCET columnist Char Miller also featured a photo of Griffith Park conflagration—"one of the nation's most deadly wildland fires"—from the USC Libraries' Los Angeles Examiner Collection.
