New Tutorials on AI Literacy and Using AI for Coursework

The USC Libraries recently launched two tutorials for the start of fall semester to introduce students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and the responsible use of AI in classes.

The new tutorials, created by Tarley Stevenson and Michaela Ullmann of the USC Libraries’ Teaching, Learning, and Research Engagement department, cover the basic operations of AI tools; how they affect individuals, society, and the environment; their use of personal or confidential information; and how to evaluate outputs from AI tools critically.

The tutorials also help students decide when and how to use AI in coursework so that it supports—rather than replaces—learning, while protecting privacy, maintaining academic honesty, and avoiding common pitfalls.

The two new tutorials are available online:

They join a wealth of AI-related tutorials, research guides, and other resources created by experts at the USC Libraries in response to the rapid development of AI tools over the past several years. These resources help USC students use AI tools effectively and responsibly and answer questions like “How do I cite ChatGPT in my research paper?”
