In Memoriam: Jim Hooker

ONE Archives

Longtime ONE Archives supporter Jim Hooker died this week on June 22. ONE Archives director Joseph Hawkins writes:

ONE Archives is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jim Hooker on June 22, 2016. Jim was a tireless advocate for ONE's mission and helped to grow the collections with his generosity and great good will. He was a charming raconteur, a good friend, and a committed advocate for LGBTQ equality. Jim loved the mission of ONE and knew that preserving the history of activism and struggle for queer equality was an important role in our community.

Jim's political involvement was well known and his awareness of the struggle for LGBTQ rights and equality were a constant in his life. His support for major figures in the queer community both locally in California and on the national stage helped immeasurably in the struggle to create a better life for LGBTQ Americans.

Jim's spiritual grounding in life through Buddhism helped to serve as his compass to guide him to forgiveness and kindness. His Southern charm and quick wit will live on with all of us. His kindness and charming spirit will live on through the work we do at ONE Archives.
