Lost LA, the USC Libraries’ public television co-production with PBS SoCal, was recently nominated for multiple awards by two media industry groups.

Last month, the Los Angeles Press Club named Lost LA a finalist for ten SoCal Journalism Awards. The nominations recognized stories on topics including ARPANET’s first message, Southern California animation history, the St. Francis Dam disaster, the Space Shuttle program, Cold War secrecy, and Disney animator Floyd Norman. Winners will be announced at the 2026 SoCal Journalism Awards gala on Sunday, June 28.

This week, the Television Academy announced that Lost LA received two Los Angeles Area Emmy Award nominations: “Animation,” in the Entertainment category, and “How This Contraption at UCLA Sent the First DM,” in the Information Segment category. Nominees from the USC Libraries include Bill Dotson, co-executive producer; Melissa Just, co-executive producer; Nathan Masters, executive producer and host; Anne-Marie Maxwell, co-producer; and Micaela Rodgers, associate producer. Nominees also include producers and staff from PBS SoCal and other members of the broader Lost LA team. Winners will be announced at the 78th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards ceremony on Saturday, July 25.

Now in its eighth season, Lost LA highlights the regional history collections of the USC Libraries and those of the libraries’ partners in the L.A. as Subject research alliance. Since its premiere in 2016, Lost LA has received seven Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, four Golden Mikes, thirteen awards from the Los Angeles Press Club, and a PRExcellence Best in Show Award from the California Library Association.
