Good Neighbors Challenge from Our Dean!

Thanks to everyone who attended the libraries' launch of our USC Good Neighbors Campaign, a partnership program that benefits the communities surrounding our campus. The GNC campaign supports a variety of programs in the following areas:

  • Enhancing educational opportunities
  • Promoting good health
  • The arts and arts education
  • Improving neighborhood safety

Here are just a few examples of how your contributions helped in previous years:

  • $5 will buy a book or art supplies for elementary school children
  • $15 will provide an hour of writing tutoring for school children

We were fortunate to have Carolina Castillo, USC's GNC lead, and Alice Green, a GNC university Neighborhood Outreach partner, help us launch the campaign. The event also featured remarks from philosophy librarian Ross Scimeca, and an introduction from our dean, Catherine Quinlan.

Dean Quinlan also issued a challenge. She urged everyone to participate, regardless of how much they contribute. Although our the total amount of our contributions has been high in recent years, the libraries' overall participation rate has not. To motivate us all to participate this year, the dean announced that she would match the first $1000 donated by library employees! Keep checking Libwire for further details, which will be announced soon.
