Founding

Actress Marjorie Lord Volk, attorney and real estate developer Glenn Sonnenberg, and former Dean of the University Libraries Charles Ritcheson founded the USC Libraries Scripter Award in 1988. The Scripter Award is a unique honor, bringing together the worlds of publishing, filmmaking and academe to celebrate the written word.

Marjorie Volk starred in numerous films and television movies but is best known for her role as Kathy Williams on the Danny Thomas television series Make Room for Daddy. A longtime board member of the Friends of the USC Libraries, she served for eight years as chair of the Scripter selection committee.

Glenn Sonnenberg is a past president of the board of the Friends of the USC Libraries and formerly served on the USC Board of Trustees. In addition, he is the former president of the USC Alumni Association board of governors and the founding president of the USC Junior Associates.

Charles Ritcheson retired from USC in 1991. Following his retirement, Ritcheson was appointed executive vice president of The Fund for Arts and Culture in Eastern Europe (1991-96), serving as country director for Hungary and Poland. In 1997, he became executive vice president for planning for the Trust for Museum Exhibitions in Washington, D.C. Ritcheson passed away at his home in Washington D.C. on December 8, 2011. He was 86.
