The Devil in France

The USC Libraries are home to the papers and library of historical novelist Lion Feuchtwanger. An outspoken critic of the Nazi Party, his books were burned, and propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels declared him "Enemy Number One of the German people." In 2010, the libraries published a new edition of The Devil in France, a memoir of his internment and escape from Vichy France to Los Angeles in 1940.
